BENICON OPENCAST MINING
Benicon provides a full range of opencast mining operations, covering the movement and management of all aspects of overburden removal and coal extraction to specified production budgets. This includes all drilling and blasting operations as well as the management of mine rehabilitation programmes to EMPR specifications. Benicon’s main clients include Anglo Thermal Coal, Anglo American Platinum and Xstrata Coal.
CLASSIC CHALLENGE TRADING (“CCT”)
CCT is a hard rock opencast mining company with core competencies in chrome mining and opencast operations for customers in the ferrochrome industry. CCT’s major client is Samancor.
OVERBURDEN DRILLING & BLASTING
JEF DRILL AND BLAST
The company is a specialised drilling and blasting entity, which uses 28 drilling rigs in the opencast mining sector, primarily in coal. JEF Drill and Blast was established as a standalone entity in support of opencast mining contracts and to meet the shift towards outsourcing of this function. JEF’s main clients include Benicon Opencast Mining, Exxaro, Concor, Optimum Coal and Gecko Mining.

Geosearch International is one of the largest African exploration drilling companies with a fleet of more than 80 exploration drilling rigs operated by vastly experienced crews. The company offers a comprehensive range of diamond, air and geotechnical drilling services across the African continent. Geosearch’s main clients include Anglogold Ashanti, Anglo American Platinum, Billiton, Lonmin, Debswana, Randgold, Impala Platinum, Vale and Newcrest.
MOBILE CRANE HIRE
RITCHIE CRANE HIRE
Ritchie Crane Hire utilises 20 medium to heavy duty mobile cranes with capacities that range from 25 to 220 tonnes for the provision of craneage services. The company is engaged in crane hire projects in the mining and construction sectors in Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo. Ritchie’s main clients include Anglo American Thermal Coal, Eskom, Xstrata Coal, Highveld Steel and Samancor Ferrochrome.

Benicon Sales focuses on the global procurement of used capital equipment and spares for overhaul and deployment, largely to members of the Sentula Group.
Coal Mining
Nkomati Anthracite
Nkomati Anthracite, situated in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa, is jointly owned by Sentula Mining(via its wholly owned subsidiary Benicon Coal(60%)) and the Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency which has a 40% shareholding in the mine. It has 7.2 million tonnes of proven reserves and 4.4 million tonnes of indicated resources. Anthracite is produced as a coke blend for domestic and export consumption, from opencast and underground operations.
Development & Exploration
Sentula remains invested in a number of Coal Projects in South Africa as well as in Zambia and Botswana.
